Astronauts

   Astronauts

 are someone trained by a manned space flight program to pass, drive or serve as a crew member of the spacecraft. While the name is often called professional astronauts, it is sometimes called scientists, politicians, journalists and tourists.

Until 2002, the sponsorship and training of astronauts was limited to governments only, either by the military or by civilian space agencies. After the privately funded subtropical flight of the first space ship Ship One in 2004, a new category of astronauts emerged.
